![]() Veterans Day is the day we stop to honor the men and women who have fallen, who have served, and who are serving in the United States Military. Originally called Armistice Day, it was established to mark the "War to End All Wars", World War I. Later, by legislative action in 1954, the day was changed from honoring just World War I Veterans to all Veterans. Fun Fact: World War I officially ended on June 28, 1919 when the Treaty of Versailles was signed. So, why is Veteran's Day celebrated each year on November 11th rather than June 28th? Answer: Fighting had actually ceased 7 months earlier with an armistice between the Allied Nations and Germany. The cessation of hostilities went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
